QLD: Govt unveils $444 mln sugar rescue package in Bundaberg = 2

Australian Canegrowers Council chairman JIM PEDERSEN says the package will provide
immediate assistance to the nation's struggling sugar industry.

He says the package will lift the blanket of uncertainty suffocating individuals and
families by allowing them to make informed decisions about their futures.

Mr PEDERSEN says stabilisation grants to be paid to all canegrowers and millers during
the 2004 season will inject fresh confidence into the industry.
