HUAWEI BUILDS ENTERPRISE HIGH-SPEED NETWORK WITH END-TO-END CISCO


MISSION-CRITICAL NETWORKS TO BE BASED ON ATM AND GIGABIT ETHERNET



Shenzhen, China, 26 April 1999/PRNI-HK-AsiaNet/-- Following a stringent
selection process, Huawei Technologies, the leading telecommunications
infrastructure manufacturer in China, has selected Cisco Systems to
deploy one of Asias largest enterprise ATM networks at its 212,000
square-metre Long Gang manufacturing facility in Shenzhen.



In addition, Huawei is in the process of implementing a large-scale
Gigabit Ethernet installation at its corporate headquarters, located in
Shenzhen Science Industrial Park. Both networks are based on end-to-end
solutions from Cisco Systems.



Huawei's Long Gang campus network is built on an array of over 30 Cisco
Catalyst 5500 switches, while its Gigabit Ethernet installation in
Shenzhen Science Industrial Park is constructed from a mix of Cisco
Catalyst 8510 and Catalyst 5000 LAN switches.



The migration is currently supervised by a dedicated team of engineers
that comprises Huawei and Cisco staff. Both Shenzhen and Long Gang
networks will eventually support 5000 to 7000 desktop users employing a
mission-critical suite of business applications including MRP (Materials
Resource Planning) and CAD (Computer-Assisted Design).



Mr. Chou Ping, chief information officer of Huawei Technologies said:
