LG Electronics Licenses Spyglass Internet Technologies for Digital TV Sets And Set-top Boxes.

NAPERVILLE, Ill., May 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Internet pioneer Spyglass Inc. (Nasdaq: SPYG) announced today that the company has licensed its Internet technologies to LG Electronics Inc. (LGE) for digital television sets and set- top boxes. Specifically, LGE licensed Spyglass Device Mosaic, an embedded Web browser, and Spyglass ThinGUI Library, a small footprint graphics library. Strategy Analytics predicts that 63 percent of U.S. households and 49 percent of European households will own digital TV set-top boxes by 2005.

With this agreement, Spyglass is helping LGE strengthen its global digital TV (DTV) strategy by providing their Internet technologies as a standards- based framework for authoring Web content, creating revenue-generating applications, and connecting to on-line services. These technologies can be used to create Internet browsing applications, electronic programming guides (EPGs), video-on-demand services, and a variety of other useful services accessible from the set-top box.
