VIC:Stynes takes a share of the blame

VIC:Stynes takes a share of the blame

By Mike Hedge

MELBOURNE, Aug 1 AAP - It began as these things generally do, with the coach as scapegoat
and everyone else blameless.

But the Melbourne Football Club's sacking of its coach Dean Bailey after Saturday's
186-point AFL loss to Geelong included an act of great decency from someone who has plenty
of it.

Jim Stynes, Melbourne hero, club president and a man engaged in a very public battle
with cancer did what few in his position ever do, but the sort of thing people now expect
from him.

In a weak, dry voice that reflected his personal struggles, Stynes admitted that some
of the blame for his club's poor performance rested with him.

"I haven't been that well," Stynes said.

"I haven't been able to carry the load I should have been carrying. I wish I could
be doing more, but I just can't."

It had been up to Stynes to phone Bailey on Sunday night and tell him he was out of a job.

"It wasn't something I was proud of," Stynes said.

Certainly, Stynes and Demons' vice-president Don McLardy, trotted out some hollow lines
in their first public statements on Bailey's sacking.

Stynes praised Bailey as a man who had helped rebuild the Demons.

"He is a great man and a man of great integrity," he said.

"He's been with our club through a very important time in its development and he is
very highly regarded by the players, staff and the board.

"He's given a lot of his time and life to the club."

McLardy said the decision to sack Bailey had been made clearer by Saturday's defeat,
but that it wasn't the sole reason.

For his part, Bailey was as gracious as Stynes, but with humour and humility.

He said he had been shattered by the news Stynes delivered.

"Jim told me `I've got some bad news and I've got some shit news'," Bailey said.

The former being that he was sacked, the latter that it was effective immediately.

Asked if he thought his players had let him down on Saturday, Bailey replied that they
had only let themselves down.

"The coach takes an enormous amount of responsibility," he said.

Bailey acknowledged he had been under pressure before Saturday and the massive defeat
had merely been the final straw.

"That's a big loss .... it's an ugly looking thing," he said.

Bailey's class was evident in his summing up.

"The concern I have is that the players will be more focused on me being sacked than
on next week's game," he said.

From Stynes there also came a line that put the whole episode into perspective.

"I won't be available from Wednesday," he said.

After what he's been through, such words never sound good.

TAS:Forestry agreement could fall apart: Kelty

An interim report into the Tasmanian forestry industry has recommended compensation
for residents near the Tamar Valley pulp mill.

The report was into a statement of principles signed last October by environmentalists,
industry groups and unions .. agreeing to ending logging in 550-thousand hectares of native
forests .. and support for a plantation-fed pulp mill.

The statement's facilitator .. BILL KELTY .. released the report today about the process
of rolling out the agreed principles .. saying there's high chance there won't be enough
support for a workable agreement to be achieved.

But he says if it's not .. consequences of failure could be significant .. and the
agreement needs the support of the state and federal governments.

He says there must be fair compensation arrangements available for people seriously
impacted by the mill.

Ms GILLARD told Mr LATHAM in the packed Brisbane showground Ekka she knew nothing about
any such complaint.

The Nine Network later apologised to Ms GILLARD for Mr LATHAM's behaviour describing

NSW: Government, police investigation dent taser death link

AAP General News (Australia)

NSW: Government, police investigation dent taser death link

By Adam Bennett

SYDNEY, Dec 26 AAP - The NSW government and police association have reiterated their
support for taser guns in the face of an independent investigation into the electric shock
weapons.

The NSW Ombudsman has reportedly launched a inquiry into the safety of tasers following
a number of overseas deaths believed to be linked to the stun guns.

Taser guns briefly incapacitate offenders with a 50,000 volt electrical pulse, administered
over five seconds.

There are 50 of the stun guns used by NSW police, across specialist units the Public
Order and Riot Squad, the Tactical Operations Unit, and State Protection Support Unit.

The force has used them for the past year, with no fatalities recorded.

However, Amnesty International has linked the gun to 150 deaths in the past six years,
including a number in the United States.

NSW police minister David Campbell said he had full confidence in tasers.

"Police have limited tasers on issue," Mr Campbell told ABC radio.

"They use them in serious, high-risk circumstances, and they use them in accordance
with their standard operating procedures to date."

The Police Association called for the guns to be made more widely available as a non-lethal
option for controlling violent situations.

Association vice-president Scott Weber, who has himself been tasered, and described
the experience "unpleasant", said they are safer than firearms in violent situations where
offenders are armed.

"When you taser someone they are going to get up after five minutes," Mr Weber said.

"When I got tasered it was five minutes of pain, and then I got straight back up, I
had all my facilities, I was walking and talking.

"It only incapacitated me for about five seconds.

"I'd much rather be tasered than receive a bullet from a gun."

Mr Weber said there had been" no direct causal link from a taser to death," and procedures
of overseas police needed to be considered when reviewing a potential link.

"We would be using the tasers in high risk situations, where there has been sieges,
or we turn up to a domestic situation that is obviously quite heated, and there may be
alcohol involved, and all of a sudden he reaches for the kitchen knife. "Instead of
pulling out our firearm we'd use our taser and zap him instead of firing a bullet."

Mr Weber said the Association would continue lobbying for the distribution of tasers
amongst general duties police.

Their use by all operational police in Western Australia has been a success, with assaults
on police down by about 40 per cent and no fatalities recorded, he said.

"What we're looking for in the new year is to have that tactical option available to
front line police officers, because they are the ones who go to the initial sieges, that
go to the violent situations," Mr Weber said.

"If you have another piece of equipment you can use to diffuse a situation in a non-lethal
way, then we are all for it."

Qld: Distraught uncle appeals for 13-yr-old girl's return

By Nikki Todd

BRISBANE, Aug 18 AAP - The distraught family of a 13-year-old Brisbane girl missing
since early yesterday have appealed for her to return home amid fears she may have disappeared
with her older brother-in-law.

Jessica Kathleen Dunstan was last seen when her uncle, Vaughan Nilsson, dropped her
off at Ferny Grove State Primary School at about 8.30am (AEST) yesterday.

The ponytailed teen did not attend school.

Police believe the teenager may be with her sister's husband, Tony Page, 32.

Mr Page was last seen in the Brisbane CBD at about 8am (AEST) yesterday.

Jessica's distraught uncle said today the family was struggling to cope with her disappearance.

"I'd like to ask Tony or Jessica to get in touch with us, please," a shaken Mr Nilsson said.

"(We are) upset, quite miserable at the moment."

He said the family had endured a harrowing few months, including the death of Jessica's
mother two months ago after a fight with diabetes.

Jessica was orphaned by her mother's death and had been in the care of her uncle and
aunt for the 10 days before she disappeared.

"She's had a lot to deal with," Mr Nilsson said.

Mr Nilsson said Jessica knew Mr Page well, as he had been married to her 23-year-old
sister for several years.

He said their marriage was sound, with Mrs Page currently expecting their third child.

"The whole thing is unusual, this whole thing is beyond me," Mr Nilsson said.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Theresa Downey said police would question staff and
students at Jessica's school over the weekend.

She said it was not confirmed that Jessica and Mr Page were together, but both had
been missing for almost two days.

"There is no information that Tony has gone to the school. However, both persons have
been reported missing," Snr Sgt Downey said.

"We haven't been able to confirm that they are together at this stage, just indications
are that they may be."

Snr Sgt Downey said it was unclear whether Jessica and Mr Page were involved in a relationship.

Anyone who has seen Jessica is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Jessica is described as Caucasian, 165cm tall, of slim build with a fair complexion,
blue eyes and long brown hair worn in a ponytail.

She was last seen wearing her blue and yellow school uniform.

Police have appealed for the public to look out for Mr Page's car, a blue 1994 Mitsubishi
Magna registered in Queensland with the number plate 847-KGS.

CANBERRA, April 3 AAP - Federal Treasurer Peter Costello says petrol retailers who

Mr Costello says the consumer watchdog, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission,

"Let me make it clear, if any service station proprietor wants to collude with anybody
else they are at risk of prosecution and conviction and conviction and heavy penalty."

FED: More Aussies taking to the roads in caravans

SYDNEY, Dec 29 AAP - Caravanning Australians taking to the road are expected to pump
more than $5 billion into the country's economy next year.

Research from the Caravan, RV and Accommodation Industry of Australia (CRVA) found
there are more than 330,000 caravans and campervans in use in Australia.

There are more than 2,700 caravan and tourist parks in the country which provide about
200,000 holiday sites.

CRVA chief executive Ben Yates said the caravan industry had grown by 15 per cent in
the past six years as Australians tired of the city's hustle and bustle.

CRVA expects Australians to embark on more than 605,000 touring holidays in 2006.

"This reflects the fact that a lot of Australians are rediscovering the freedom, flexibility
and affordability that comes with caravanning, camping and staying in tourist park cabins,"

Mr Yates said.

Those in the 15 to 44 age bracket were most likely to use caravan or camping parks.

Hot spots Where to find wireless Internet in the Lincoln-Way area

You need to get some work done online, but the kids are clamoring to go to story hour at the library. What to do?

Now, you can do both.

In the Lincoln-Way area, the Mokena, Manhattan and Frankfort public libraries offer free wireless Internet access -- Wi-Fi -- to anyone with a laptop and wireless network card.

Wi-Fi allows people to bring their wireless-enabled laptop computers or PDAs to places with wireless networks -- hot spots -- and connect to the Internet.

Wi-Fi is a term that has become almost synonymous with wireless access, although technically speaking, that's not the case.

"Wi-Fi is actually a trademark, a marketing term. It means a certaindownload and upload capacity, like a speed," said Joe Sullivan, assistant professor for Cisco networking programs at Joliet Junior College.

"A hot spot means, `We have wireless access,'" he said. "It's designed for people who have a laptop or other devices with a wireless card. It will come internally with a laptop, or you can buy it externally. Plug it into a port ... and you have wireless access. Most new laptops today come standard with wireless."

The Frankfort Public Library has offered free Wi-Fi service for about two years, said library Director Detlev Pansch.

"It relieves the pressure on library to provide more equipment, which is very nice," Pansch said, adding that the library has 14 computer workstations dedicated to Internet use. "With the growth in this community, there is constant pressure for Internet access.

"We've even had people sitting in the parking lot using it before we open," he said.

Wi-Fi is useful because rather than carrying CDs or diskettes and waiting in line for a computer to open up, patrons are bringing their work in with them.

The Manhattan Public Library installed free Wi-Fi access about a year ago, said library Director Judy Pet.

"Now that we have it, I can't imagine not having it," Pet said. "We're a very small library in a very small building and frequently our eight Internet stations are in use. It works out very well for us. You can sit anywhere in the library and access the Internet."

Panera Bread

Wi-Fi service is also free to use at Panera Bread restaurants. Mark Crowley, spokesman for Panera, said the company began offering Wi-Fi in late 2003.

"We really felt that the addition of Wi-Fi fit well with what ourcustomers want in Panera," he said. "From comfortable seating to thefireplaces, it's viewed as another step in providing customers with aninviting environment. They can come in, grab a cup of coffee, a bagel, and if they want to check their e-mail or the news, it provides them with another opportunity to do so.

"Wi-Fi is definitely a growing trend -- Starbucks, McDonald's both offer it," he said. "It falls in line with the growing trend of more wireless technology. With the growth of PDAs and cell phone technology, and laptop computers becoming more popular, (the service) provides customers who are on the go and traveling a lot a `home- away-from-home' environment."

T-Mobile HotSpot

Starbucks launched Wi-Fi in August 2002, with 1,200 stores offering what is known as the T-Mobile HotSpot service, said Starbucks spokesman Nick Davis. T-Mobile is the network provider for Wi-Fi service.

T-Mobile HotSpot is now in 7,344 locations, like Starbucks coffeehouses, Borders Books & Music stores, FedEx Kinko's Office and Print Centers, select Hyatt Hotels & Resorts and airports. Locally, you can find it at the Borders Books in Matteson and Orland Park, the FedEx Kinko's in Joliet and Matteson and Starbucks stores in Frankfort, Bolingbrook, Joliet, Homer Glen, Matteson and Plainfield.

Davis said customer demand prompted the addition of Wi-Fi.

"Before we offered it, customers told us they wanted to stay connected in our stores," he said. "In some cases, they were asking baristas if they could plug into our phone jacks."

Customers need to have an account with T-Mobile to use the service. There's information about pricing plans on the T-Mobile Web site.

Once you have an account with T- Mobile, you can use the service at any places T-Mobile has hot spots.

"As a whole, having Wi-Fi in our stores is a great fit for our storeenvironment and that coffeehouse experience," Davis said.

The Westfield Louis Joliet Mall offers Wi-Fi for a fee of $3 a day, $20 a month if it's an ongoing subscription or $40 for a one-time, one- month subscription, a spokesman said.

Barnes and Noble Booksellers has it through SBC, for a fee. Denny's in Mokena offers wireless Internet access through two different fee-based providers.

Even McDonald's has gotten into the act. Several area stores offer Wi- Fi for free. A lot of area hotels offer Wi-Fi, as well.

In fact, it's getting more and more common to find hot spots in localbusinesses. For more wireless hot spots, check out www.jiwire.com.

Home use

People can buy wireless access points -- WAPs for short -- that allow the entire house to become wireless. The kits can range in price from $30 (on an online auction site) to $100. Sounds great, right? Not so fast.

"That's very dangerous because the security isn't installed at thatpoint," Sullivan said. "You have to provision the wireless access point to lock it down so only people in your house can use it. It's dangerous to buy one and just plug it in."

Making that access point secure is "not an easy process; you have to be knowledgeable about what security risks are there," he said. "It's kind of a process where if you didn't know about it, you should seek someone professional."

If you don't lock it down, someone could conceivably stand in front of your house in the street and connect to the Internet off your signal, he said.

Citywide

There are entire cities that have gone wireless, like Seattle andPhiladelphia. The city of Chicago is seeking proposals on how to build a city-wide wireless Internet network. Even the village of Frankfort is looking into offering wireless Internet access in its historic downtown area.

Ideally, citywide access would lead to a wireless connection for first-response teams -- police, fire and ambulance.

Then there are other questions to consider -- would wireless access be another utility bill? Where would that leave the cable and phone companies? Would home builders start including access points in new homes?

What would happen to businesses already offering Wi-Fi to customers, either for free or for a fee?

"Here's the thing about wireless: it transmits across boundaries," Sullivan said. "If Aurora goes wireless and these stores offer theservice, the wireless will beam right through the windows at Starbucks. The laptop is going to use the signal it can jump on board with andaccess. So they'll be able to use the city's wireless service in theStarbucks.

"It really depends on how far the user is away from the antenna. It'slike kid using a walkie-talkie. Location has a big effect on that," hesaid. "Wireless access points don't limit the number of users. It could have hundreds of people on one access point."

To launch the fund, Liberate announced that Two Way TV will receive a seven million dollar investment.

(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/19990630/LIBERATE )

The creation and development of the fund has been bolstered by a series of recent and successful investments by Liberate in other promising iTV leaders, including ICE Interactive Ltd., Diva Systems Corporation and Everypath, Inc. The fund is further strengthened by Liberate's investment in Two Way TV, a leader in interactive gaming and enhanced TV applications that allow viewers to participate in game shows and sporting events. This investment builds on Liberate's existing relationship with Two Way TV whose games service offerings are integrated onto the Liberate software platform. Liberate network operators, including NTL and Telewest, have integrated Two Way TV's gaming features into their respective iTV offerings.

"In creating the Liberate Corporate Venture Fund, we are building on our momentum as the leader in the interactive TV market," said Mitchell Kertzman, president and CEO of Liberate Technologies. "We have the proven know-how to identify all of the critical technologies and companies that will propel interactive television into the mainstream."

Simon Cornwell, Two Way TV Chief Executive, said: "The universal appeal of playing games is at the heart of what we do. Games are already proving their ability to lead consumer understanding and take-up of interactive services on digital television. As these services increase in sophistication, we need to have close links with those who make-up the interactive broadcast infrastructure. Liberate, who we already know really well, is a key piece of the puzzle. Equally we value Liberate's endorsement of our consumer offering with this significant investment."

Liberate will take minority equity stakes in developing, privately held companies that are in the mid to late stages of financing, have exceptional management teams with proven records, and have developed proven technology. Liberate will co-invest with top-tier venture capital funds and in most cases, will not seek to retain a seat on a company's Board of Directors. The size of the investment will generally run between 15 to 25% of any given financing event. The Liberate Corporate Venture Fund will operate as a business group within Liberate.

In addition to identifying and investing in key iTV players, Liberate will enter into a strategic relationship with each company. Specifically, Liberate will work closely to further develop and integrate the iTV applications and technologies with Liberate's platform/technologies/products and guide and participate in co-marketing activities, including joint press releases and joint trade show participation.

Liberate has established a proven record of success with leading cable, telecommunications, satellite and Internet service provider companies. Standards-based, the Liberate TV Platform provides enhanced TV capabilities that offer maximum flexibility, letting network operators select from a broad range of not only content and applications, but the types of devices to which they are delivered. DotAsia to Support Asian New gTLDs.

Following the approval from ICANN for the implementation of the new gTLD (Generic Top-Level Domain) program, DotAsia announces its plans to support new gTLDs from Asia, including its own IDN (Internationalized Domain Name) TLDs and applications from other Asian new gTLD applicants.

"As one of the latest new gTLDs, and as a not-for-profit organization with a core mandate to promote Internet development and adoption, DotAsia is well equipped to provide support to new gTLD aspirants from Asia. We believe our experience and understanding in the ICANN process, policies, technology and market will help Asian new gTLDs become successful," says Edmon Chung, CEO of DotAsia. "Domain names are analogous to Internet real-estate, and this opening of new gTLDs is like a watershed deregulation. We are prepared to lend our expertise to assist Asian initiatives so Asia does not lose out on this 'land grab'. Domains is also an important Internet resource supporting development, especially considering the introduction of Asian language IDN gTLDs."

DotAsia is planning to offer support to new gTLD applicants from Asia, assisting in the application process, policy and community development, finance and other aspects of creating and operating a for-profit or a community gTLD. Interested parties are welcome to inquire further at: info@ngtld.asia.

Meanwhile, building on the successful launch of alphanumeric (ASCII) ".Asia" registrations, Sunrise (i.e. Priority Registration) for Chinese, Japanese and Korean Internationalized Domain Name (IDN -- web address represented in local languages) continues with a similar phased approach to ensure orderly introduction of IDN ".Asia" domains. Sunrise (http://www.idn.asia) and the Pioneer Domains Program (http://pioneer.domains.asia), opened on May 11, will close on July 25, 2011.

"IDNs will change the perceived value of domain names in Asia as businesses discover the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) value of domains. Hundreds of millions of Chinese, Japanese and Korean users are actively searching online in their native language. IDN realizes the SEO value by making it possible to have a domain name matching what users are searching for, thereby improving the ranking of your website," added Chung.

BT HOME HUB 3 pounds 92 ****

Acable-free home is a tidier one, but we've all experienced our fair share of wireless internet wi-fi woes. Now, the latest Home Hub model from BT is out to banish signal drop-out forever.

It achieves incredibly reliable wireless connectivity by constantly adapting to the frequencies surrounding it. Whereas other routers default to a single wireless channel which may, over time, become prone to interference as you add new wireless products, the Home Hub 3 dynamically changes channel if it identifies a problem.

Range is good too, using the 802.11n standard with the signal maintaining strength through two solid floors, as well as a good 30 feet away outside.

Despite a pain-free set-up - which can even connect certain compatible devices to the router with a single button press - the Home Hub 3 is satisfyingly secure too, using WEP, WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK and Radius protocols.

Elsewhere, the router is future-proofed with a dedicated BT Infinity port, ready for the owner to upgrade their broadband connection to BT's superfast fibre-optic network once the service rolls out nationwide.

This is an attractive router that performs to a consistently excellent standard. Quite simply, this is the best BT Home Hub yet.

Miami Immigration Firm Launches New Website with Improved Resources to Help with Visas.(Website overview)

(Vocus/PRWEB) April 14, 2011

Coming to the U.S. temporarily or permanently can be a daunting, confusing process. U.S. government websites and other Internet sites on U.S. immigration often contain conflicting and contradictory information on highly complex U.S. laws and regulations. However, the website of the Miami immigration law firm of Bernstein Osberg-Braun & de Moraes is your centralized gateway to authoritative American immigration law information and services. If you're looking for help with visas, the new website of Bernstein Osberg-Braun & de Moraes is the number one place to go.

Befitting the largest immigration law firm in the Miami area, the new Bernstein Osberg-Braun & de Moraes website contains comprehensive information on the various types of visas available for temporary and permanent visas in the United States. For example, the firm's web pages on visas obtained through employer sponsorship contain a complete discussion of the process of securing these visas, as well as the obligations incurred by employers and employees in each visa process. This information is also available in fact sheets downloadable in PDF formats. These fact sheets also contain lists of the various documents USCIS generally expects to be filed with visa petitions, so you can get a head start on preparing your case. If you are looking for help with visas for a family member, the Bernstein Osberg-Braun & de Moraes website also contains extensive information on the process of sponsoring a relative for residence in the United States. As you might expect from any good Miami immigration law firm, the firm's website also contains information available in the Spanish language.

Aside from its helpful website, Bernstein Osberg-Braun & de Moraes provides a full range of American immigration legal services. Composed of former INS attorneys and other government attorneys who have served on both prosecutorial and defense teams, Bernstein Osberg-Braun & de Moraes has a range of experience unmatched by any other immigration attorneys in the Miami area. The fact that the firm handles temporary visas and permanent visas across all employment-based, family-based, and humanitarian categories ensures that you will be presented with a full range of visa options, as opposed to being pushed to choose from a limited set of visa options that a less experienced immigration lawyer is comfortable with.

The lawyers at Bernstein Osberg-Braun & de Moraes are each willing and able to defend your rights in immigration court and even federal court, should it be necessary. The firm's partners, Linda Osberg-Braun and Regina de Moraes, are tenacious litigators and widely considered one of the top immigration litigation attorneys in South Florida.

Karen Caco, has recently joined Bernstein Osberg-Braun & de Moraes as a Partner. Karen specializes in EB-5 green cards, worldwide consular processing and corporate immigration. Karen has been the Managing Director and Senior Attorney with International Immigration Services, PA in Naples, Florida for the past ten years. With significant expertise in Regional Center start-ups and EB-5 Green Cards, Karen adds new dimension to the legal resources Bernstein Osberg-Braun & de Moraes can provide.

One of the real advantages in working with Bernstein Osberg-Braun & de Moraes relative to any other visa attorney is that Bernstein Osberg-Braun & de Moraes provides extensive ancillary legal services that would otherwise have to be referred out to other attorneys. This "in-sourcing" results in significant cost savings on your part. Bernstein Osberg-Braun & de Moraes's corporate attorneys can provide advice on the formation of business entities needed to qualify for long-term E-2 non-immigrant and EB-5 visas, and also employs an in-house investigator who can help uncover evidence that can assist in rebutting negative assertions made by USCIS and other government agencies. Additionally, the firm is involved with the Miami-Dade Regional Center, through which a $500,000 investment can be a fast track to an EB-5 "green card." The firm's commitment to new innovations in legal services and technology is also demonstrated in the firm website's newest feature, a status checker which allows clients to find out the status of their cases online at any time, 24 hours a day, using the firm's case management database.

Bernstein Osberg-Braun & de Moraes is dedicated to providing a complete range of legal services to current and prospective immigrants in the Miami area, across the United States, and throughout the world. On the World Wide Web, and in the Miami area, you only need to make one stop for visa information, such as TN visas, and legal servicesathe law firm of Bernstein Osberg-Braun & de Moraes. To get started with a Bernstein Osberg-Braun & de Moraes attorney, complete the form or call for a consultation at 305-895-0300. An experienced attorney will be happy to assist you in making a temporary or permanent home in the United States.

PocketFinder Personal Location Devices Use GPS Technology to Keep Families Connected.

The Ability to Pinpoint a Loved One or Pet 24/7 Dramatically Increases Peace of Mind

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- In today's mobile society of single parents and dual-income spouses, heads of families are often absent from home and unable to stay connected with their children, elderly parents and other loved ones and unable to verify that they are where they are supposed to be.

Location Based Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB:LBAS) provides families with peace of mind by allowing them to verify -- almost instantaneously -- the location of family members, loved ones and pets at anytime from almost anywhere using PocketFinder[R] location devices.

"Most location-based services today are based on re-packaging existing products," explained David Morse, co-president and CEO of Location Based Technologies, Inc. "We began with the customer and worked backwards. We designed our products, interface and infrastructure from scratch to meet the needs of a mass market by providing products they will actually use and applications they truly desire."

The PocketFinder[R] location device is a small GPS unit -- about the size of an Oreo[TM] cookie -- that can be attached to a lanyard, key ring or belt loop or easily dropped into a pocket, purse or backpack. Once activated, the device allows parents and guardians to find the location of a child, elderly relative or loved one at any time, day or night.

The PetFinder[TM] location device, which attaches to an animal's collar, offers a safe alternative to microchipping a pet.

Both devices are lightweight, discreet, waterproof and shockproof; they are designed to withstand almost any kind of abuse. The devices' rechargeable batteries last approximately seven days. Monthly subscribers can log onto the PocketFinder Network (www.pocketfinder.com) from a PC, cell phone or any other Internet device. The PocketFinder Network employs the U.S. Department of Defense's Global Positioning System (GPS) and existing wireless technology to locate the devices. Whether the loved one or pet is inside a building, outdoors or in a moving vehicle, subscribers can find their location and even see how fast they are traveling. PocketFinders are the only personal locators that can measure impact and offer a "high impact" alert. Subscribers with more than one PocketFinder can view multiple devices on a single account.

Included in the monthly subscriber fee is the ability to define home, safety and prohibited zones and even set speed alerts. If the device leaves a defined zone or exceeds the safety speed, it immediately alerts the subscriber via email, phone or text message.

Hitwise predicts 12% growth for Online shopping this Christmas.

M2 PRESSWIRE-12 September 2005-Hitwise: Hitwise predicts 12% growth for Online shopping this Christmas(C)1994-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

RDATE:12092005

London: UK retailers may well be suffering a slump on the high street but online retailing continues to post healthy gains, and the latest analysis from Hitwise - the leading online competitive intelligence service - today reveals that this growth is set to continue through the busy Christmas season.

Hitwise analysis reveals that UK internet users will rely even more heavily on online shopping for Christmas gift buying this year and predicts that:

The online retail sector will grow 25% in share of visits from July 2005 to December 2005, representing a 12% year-on-year increase since December 2004.

Visits to online retailers will peak the week ending 3rd December 2005, with more than 1 in every 7 internet visits going to online retailers that week.

This peak will be driven by visits to eBay UK, whose traffic peaks earlier than most other online retailers. Retailers in general will see their traffic peak the following week, week ending 10th December.

These predictions are based on analysis of UK internet user behaviour for the past two years and year to date data for 2005, and allows businesses to more intelligently plan online promotions and allocate customer support resources.

"This growth in online retailing is great news for retailers who are facing increasingly difficult times on the high street", said Heather Hopkins, Director of Research for Hitwise UK. "Last Christmas was one of the best ever for online retailers and this year is shaping up to be even stronger. Firms that are well prepared stand to benefit considerably from increased consumer demand for online shopping."

eBay Continues to Lead Online Retailing

eBay UK continues to pose a serious threat to online retailers as the most visited online retailer by UK internet users. 1 in every 4 visits to online retailers goes to eBay UK and the site has grown rapidly - with a 40% increase in market share of visits year on year in July 2005.

"High street retailers have in the past relied on searches for their brand for visits. To compete online, they need to expand their efforts to get visits from generic product searches", continued Hopkins. "Woolworths is an example of a high street brand that was remarkably successful at getting visits on generic product searches for popular Christmas gifts last year. For example, www.woolworths.co.uk was one of the top recipients of searches for "portable dvd players" and "playstation games" in December 2004."

Hitwise helps businesses to identify the most popular online gifts and search term gaps (search terms sending visits to competitor sites but not to a firm's own site).

Online Retail Sector Landscape as of July 2005

Online retailing is one of the biggest online categories, with the Hitwise Shopping & Classifieds category accounting for 11% of all UK internet visits in July; 1 in every 9 internet visits currently goes to retail websites. The category attracts a larger share of visits than search (10%) and Travel (5%).

Auctions is by far the largest retail sub-category, making up 44% of visits to the Shopping & Classifieds category. This is due to eBay UK's dominance, accounting for 85% of visits to Auctions websites in July. Departments Stores is the second largest retail sub-category at 12% followed by Rewards and Directories at 10%.

West Palm Beach Chef, Internet Host Honored for Outstanding Achievements and Contributions.

Ashworth College (http://www.ashworthcollege.edu) announced that Ashworth alumnus, Falan Taylor, West Palm Beach, FL, has been presented with a certificate of recognition from the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC).

The DETC annually recognizes outstanding graduates having achieved a degree of celebrity within their career field and continue to make positive contributions to the community. Taylor is among eight graduates from accredited DETC member distance education institutions to receive this designation for 2011.

Taylor, a 2004 graduate of Ashworth College's Gourmet Cooking and Catering program, is currently Executive Chef for Gourmet Services Inc., an Atlanta-based foodservice industry leader specializing in school districts, colleges and universities, and corporations. She is also known for being the creator and host of the popular online cooking show, "Housewife Cuisine" and author of a best-selling cookbook by the same name.

"As someone who demonstrates how her online education has made positive contributions to her professional success, Falan is clearly a role model. We're proud to have her as an Ashworth alumna," said Gary M. Keisling, Ashworth College Chairman and CEO.

Distance education helped to turn a family legacy into a rewarding career

By age 15, Taylor had already decided to follow in her mother's and grandmother's footsteps as both a professional cook and caterer. However, no one anticipated that that her passion for food would take her to an entirely new level as a multi-media sensation.

Since its inception, "Housewife Cuisine," has become a popular online cooking series. Entertaining and relatable, Taylor has made gourmet cooking something the everyday housewife or working mom can feel confident doing. It's this practical approach to cooking that has helped these demonstrations to steadily build a loyal base of more than 375,000 followers.

Garnishes and knife skills to family suppers, she specializes in recipes to fit the busy lifestyle of today's working mom and her online viewers are able to follow each "webisode" and cook right along with her.

Taylor began her culinary training as a military spouse. It was her former husband's deployment to Italy that inspired her to pursue formal culinary training both locally and as a student in Ashworth's Gourmet Cooking and Catering Program. Returning state-side, she continued studying at the Texas Culinary Academy's Le Cordon Bleu program.

"Ashworth not only gave me my first formal culinary training, it also gave me the confidence to write and publish my first cookbook, 'Housewife Cuisine,'" Taylor said. "Thanks to Ashworth I got a foot in the door and a major leap in my career."

Ashworth College and DETC also recognized Rodney Campbell, Raeford, NC, as the 2011 Outstanding Graduate. A four time Ashworth College graduate, the U.S. Army veteran is currently pursuing a Master's of Science Degree in Management with Ashworth College.

"Our success is best viewed through the lens of what has happened to our graduates -- how they put their knowledge and skills to work to make a better life...how they achieve their goals," said Michael P. Lambert, DETC Executive Director. "It's gratifying to read about the successes of the graduates of our accredited colleges."
